JEAN-FRANCOIS PHANEUF, DIRECTOR OF ARTISTIC PLANNING, WINNIPEG SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
The WSO is proud to partner with the Women in Musical Leadership in securing talented conductors to participate in our RBC Canadian Conductor Showcase. The program is also a great support to our present and previous WSO Assistant conductors, Monica Chen and Naomi Woo. Though women are finally emerging as wholly capable conductors in what has been a male dominated profession, their acceptance as musical leaders still requires advocacy. For this, the WSO acknowledges the invaluable work of the WML Program and strongly supports its efforts.
PAUL SPORTELLI, MUSIC DIRECTOR, SHAW FESTIVAL
Kelly (Lin) has made a significant impression. Kelly is a powerful and physically expressive conductor, and she brought out the best of actors and orchestra players. I believe Kelly has made our Brigadoon something richer because of her collaboration with us, and it seems to me that this is a quintessential Women in Musical Leadership success story.
SHAWN EARLE, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, SISTEMA TORONTO
Working with WML conductor Jennifer Tung, the level of engagement, attendance, and technique has blossomed in our honours orchestra. Jennifer’s professionalism, expertise, and warmth has inspired our students, fostering their confidence and attention to detail. Working with someone of Jennifer’s skill and artistry is a wonderful opportunity for the students of Sistema Toronto to grow into their fullest potential.
LARRY DESROCHERS, GENERAL DIRECTOR, MANITOBA OPERA
Manitoba Opera has been thrilled to be a partner in the Women in Musical Leadership program led by Tapestry Opera. The assistant conductors have added tremendous artistic value to the rehearsal process. Each of them has arrived well prepared; had unique perspectives on the operas we were working on; and were excellent colleagues. We look forward to hosting future Women in Musical Leadership conductors.
